October is National Home Security Month

National Home Security Month supported by YaleNational Home Security Month (NHSM) is supported by Yale. It is a scheme that started in October 2013 and is a platform to promote better home security throughout the year but particularly during the Winter months, when nights are longer, it gets darker earlier and crime rates go up. Burglaries are reported to increase by up to 20% in certain areas during the Winter. NHSM is open to businesses, charities, non-profit organisations and the general public alike. If you would like to get involved, or simply find out more about it click here.

Each week throughout October, a different theme will be highlighted and this years program is as follows:

  • Week 1 – National Home Security Month is Back!
  • Week 2 – Securing Doors and Windows
  • Week 3 – Protecting Valuables Week 3
  • Week 4 – Outdoor Security Week 4
  • Week 5 – Future Home Security Week 5

This first week of NHSM is promoting the Yale mobile application ‘Yale Crime Watcher app‘. A useful tool that enables you to check crime rates for postcode and make comparisons for the previous month. In addition to the crime statistics it also gives useful suggestions for better home security.
